YoungOnes Presents...
Dark Sky - Imagin
The long awaited debut album from the London based trio, Dark Sky!
"After a string of club focused 12"s they delve deep to deliver a tender and uplifting offering entitled 'imagin.' To the sworn fan it may come as a surprise, but it will prove to be a pleasant one, as the evolution from the analogue metallic sounds that shaped their past discography naturally mature and slide into the sound palette of imagin."
Delve right into our favourite track on the album, a serious 'blow your socks off' production "Odyssey"

Midland
The northern wizard, Midland has announced very arousing news that he has an EP coming out on September 15th through Will Saul's, Aus Music. Midland's previous release, 'Before We Leave' on Phonica Records, was a real classic with many admirable elements such as the continual pounding snare and the cheery chords. From the brief clips we've heard of this upcoming EP we feel the release will have a bit more mood about it, certainly less lighthearted with a dingier feel coming out but always a sound that intrigues, grows and stands out. Stay tuned for mid September.

Phaeleh - 'Somnus'
Bristolian, Phaeleh (pronounced Fella) has generously given away his latest album with downloaders being given the option to pay as much as they want for the album. The now world-wide established artist has made a never ending list of spine tingling productions that are always powerful and emotional. This is his third album with 'Fallen Light' being released in 2010 and 'Tides' in 2013. Phaeleh told an interview, 'fans who pirated my music actually tried to buy me beers at gigs after feeling bad for it after the show' - says a lot about his music!
We can announce we have an in-depth interview coming from Phaeleh himself this month....
Here below is a piece regarding the album 'Somnus':
Phaeleh has always been highly regarded for his emotionally resonant atmospheres. Here he delivers a highly overdue beatless longplayer honed from found sound from the last 10 years, made on portable minidisc recorders, cameras, phones and anything else with a mic. Influences from Brian Eno, Aphex Twin and Global Communication seep through the cracks on his most uncompromising work to date. Here Phaeleh wears the Somnus genome on his sleeve ' For example Eleven is definitely informed by the work of Pierre Schaeffer, Jonty Harrison and Simon Atkinson I hope you can hear that'. The album also leans on the utilitarian use of his music, on how his fanbase use his music to soundtrack specific aspects of their lives from Child birth (we have the video evidence) to life celebrations:
"After the amazing feedback to the iD slumber sessions mix, and so many years of people saying they'd revise to it, sleep to it, get therapy to it, I thought it might be a nice idea to put together a collection of some of these tracks, which up to this point, were just for personal consumption."
Somnus is a mediative work for you to use to find a gap in pace to todays info cascade.

Skream - Come With Me
More on Skream but for good reason. Fascinating video here discussing matters we touched on in our live recorded interview with him back in March. Here Skream takes you through his journey on why he shifted from playing and producing a genre he pioneers, he talks about what Dubstep has become and what it originally was meant to be... take not Skrillex
Plastikman
Richie Hawtin is one of the biggest names in the game and is hailed as a true icon of electronic production by the masses. He is currently one of the most prolific acts headlining shows left right and centre; he holds a residency at the legendary Space in Ibiza and also is running his label ‘M_Nus’. With over 20 years under his belt he has now officially brought back his alter-ego, Plastikman. This is very exciting news for fans and others all around intrigued to see what he’s got in store for the world this time round. Last year saw the release of his first Plastikman works for 10 years in an album entitled ‘Ex’. He recently played the first live performance under the alias at Sonar last week and it looked pretty incredible from pictures coming out.
Here’s a nice passage from one on-looker: “Coinciding with the setting of the sun, Richie Hawtin materialized within the crowd atop a raised table, not twenty feet away from the giant structure. Moments later, the curious emanations of Ex poured forth as the obelisk was illuminated with ethereal green tendrils. The audience stood captivated by the sight, not sure whether to watch Hawtin or the towering visual structure. As I took in the spectacle before me, it felt as though Plastikman had created a mythology.”
“This is really a visual representation of my struggle for the last 25 years. It’s man versus machine; it’s David and Goliath; it’s how far technology can take us as human beings, how it helps and expands us, how it can also hinder us.” – Richie Hawtin
Skream: 'Of Unsound Mind'
So Skream has a label! 'Of Unsound Mind' is its name and the first release is by an up and comer called Motions who has been featuring in 'Skreamizm' events of late. Our pick from the EP is the first track on the B-side entitled 'Fielded' which cries out memories of Skream's own track, 'Dutch Flowerz' with that eerie, melodic, high pitched synth.
With the closure of Skream's previous label 'Disfigured Dubz' back in November, now he can focus on a label leaning more towards the sounds that he is creating and also be inspired by.
"There isn’t a particular guideline as of yet, just stuff I’m really feeling and artists I feel people need to know about. For example I’m gonna be releasing tracks by a girl from Mumbai called Sandunes who I met at a show whilst I was out there. She’s great, her music is kind of ultra melodic UKG, she’s also someone I’m very very excited about!" - Skream
Of Unsound Mind 001 is out on wax and digitally on June 23rd

XOYO Residency number 3
XOYO has announced that the mighty Jackmaster will be the ruling the stage over the next 13 weeks. The Scotsman is a DJ only which we are seeing less and less nowadays with producing becoming more accessible to the masses. Following up from the two previous residents, The 2 Bears and Eats Everything expect Jackmaster to continue to send revelers away wanting more and keeping the bar high.
The 3rd chapter of residents at XOYO begins on July 14th and runs until September 27th. Some huge acts are among the artists on show including Loefah, Joy Orbison, Will Saul just to name a few and as always the resident will play all night long on the first and last Saturdays
Tickets to XOYO events are available on Resident Advisor.
