The Hydra: Novel Sound w/ Levon Vincent, Joey Anderson & Fred P @ Studio Spaces E1 | 3rd December
Fresh after releasing his latest record on Novel Sound only this week, Levon Vincent brings himself and his label to the infamous Studio Spaces warehouse in E1 this coming weekend. With him he brings two fellow New York natives and close friends, Dekmantel affiliate Joey Anderson and Soul People Music’s Fred P (aka Black Jazz Consortium). Levon and Joey tread the fine line between house and techno, whereas Fred P is much more responsible for pushing underground deep house music. A criminally underrated producer in my opinion and with such a consistent output over the last 10 years, his work is well worth checking out if you haven’t done so already. The night is set to be a promising one, and just maybe, if you’re lucky, might hark back to the early days of NYC clubbing that you often hear them talking about.
Bloc presents A Love From Outer Space @ Bloc | 9th December
Six years ago two men from East London joined together to form a party that is now an international attraction for the dance community. Whilst managing to stay faintly under the radar from the masses ‘A Love From Outer Space’ is a party that “never knowingly exceeds 122 bpm” according to Mr Weatherall himself, and takes you through a voyage of interspersed flip-flop disco, meaty chugging house unlike anything you’ve ever heard before, krautrock sounds from the Orient and whatever takes the duo’s fancy.
Sean Johnston and Andrew Weatherall have crafted a party to trump all parties (for a lack of a better word). Intimate and soulful yet, grandiose beyond belief the tracks these two play together, sourced from the deepest corners of record stores and fairs around the world, tell a story of two genuine music fanatics, not fussed by trends and fads but assured in their own tastes, and what taste they have!
Spill The Beats Christmas Fiesta @ The Flying Dutchman | 10th December
Saturday 10th can only mean one thing… Spill The Beats! We’ve teamed up with Jurassic Clive from YO resident duo Hoochy & Clive to present a Christmas party at one of our favourite South London venues, The Flying Dutchman and with some of our favourite House & Disco DJs.
Rinse FM Boxing Day 2016 @ Ministry Of Sound
Rinse returns this Boxing Day with their annual Christmas knees up - expect bars, bass and jangles to work off that Christmas pudding. Spreading across four rooms, they reside once again at Ministry of Sound in Elephant in Castle and invite down the whole Rinse FM family plus a few extra special guests.
Room 1 heads up with Heartless Crew, Novelist, DJ Zinc with Tippa and head honcho Geeneus providing a rare set. Room 2 takes a darker and heavier spin with Loefah and Mumdance topping the bill; Room 3 sees stars from London homegrown label Local Action plus more. The fourth room is occupied with DJ Ron and house & garage fiend Sam Supplier all night long.
It's good to see Oneman who's had a massive year with his XOYO residency and Logan Sama after his sensational FabricLive also featuring. Perhaps the friendliest face appearing on the lineup however is Dubstep megastar, Benga after quite some time out with health issues and he's alongside Sgt.Pokes, this is surely not one to be missed!
LWE NYD 2017 @ tobacco Dock
Which NYE or NY event do I go to!? It can be a tricky decision to make with all the strong options, yes the prices go up but line up curation goes up a notch too. So, which one to choose… LWE are arguably London’s hottest promoters at the moment with their carefully curated and very well organised events. Having been to Junction 2 this year I can safely say they’re pushing the capitals day parties to another dimension, which is especially impressive in a city that is seeing a lot of negativity around clubbing culture. Aswell as that, they have recently announced the exciting news that they will be overseeing the music programming at a new 5000 capacity venue called Printworks which will be opening its doors next year. Reading about it you get a sense it’s going to be quite a venue; some more positive news for the average disgruntled London raver.
For the LWE NY bash they’ve got the legendary Carl Cox coming down to one of London’s best raving venues, the Tobacco Dock. With him will be some of our favourites like Dubfire, ANNA, Hot Since 82, Cristoph and more of the Knee Deep In Sound and Carl Cox & Friends crew. Expect the sound and production levels to be equally as good as the music all day long!
