:: Matt Jam Lamont (Solo Music) ::
A pioneer, respected DJ, an accomplished producer/remixer, label / A&R manager and radio presenter, Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont has been an intrinsic part of the UK Dance scene from its very inception.
Hooking up with fellow DJ Karl ‘Tuff Enuff’ Brown, and together in 1993 they formed the now legendary production/remixing team, Tuff Jam. The duo became the leading figureheads of the UK dance scene during the mid to late 90′s, turning out a slew of classic anthems.
In 2000, Matt Jam Lamont decided it was time to pursue other individual and alternative projects outside of the celebrated Tuff Jam partnership & continued with a solo show on Kiss 100 until 2005. Matt also forged another fruitful collaboration, this time with Gavin ‘DJ Face’ Mills (Banana Republic & Copyright fame).
Together in 2001 they were responsible for formulating a ground-breaking UK Dance style mix for successful British trio group Mis-Teeq leading to a debut top 10 chart hit with Why (which was also used as the video/main mix). As an example of production versatility, the innovative Jam & Face garage remix of Why (originally an R&B track) helped Mis-Teeq to obtain an album deal on the back of the single. Jam & Face have also re-rubbed the likes of Artful Dodger, Damage, Mary J Blige, Liberty X and club floor filler from Daniel Bedingfield, ‘Gotta Get Thru This’, amongst many others.
In the summer of 2000, Matt started up his own label, Solo Recordings, which has quickly established a reputation for releasing quality new tracks.
Studio and production success is fundamentally important to Matt, but the true test of a DJ remains in the clubs. With his versatile DJing skills playing all styles of House, Garage, breaks, dubs, & D&B. Matt Jam remains a busy DJ, both in the UK as well as at international clubbing haunts.
2014 has again started well for Matt with his remix of Vanquish – Damn (licensed to Solo Music) under his Jam Experience pseudonym (with Scott Diaz) going #1 in the Traxsource.om House Sales Chart for 3 weeks & a new remixes for Nabiha – Bang That Drum (licensed to Solo Music), Ny ft Krept & Konan – Sweat Love, Kele Le Roc – Changing Games (Stone Villager) to name a few.
As an unceasing champion of the British music scene, and indeed of great garage music irrespective of origin, it’s no misnomer to class Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont amongst dance music’s real pioneers.

:: Tom Shorterz (Rinse / Four40 Records / 02:31) ::
Having been a consistent presence in Birmingham's dance music underground for the last decade, Tom Shorterz now stands poised as one of the UK's most exciting rising figures in house and bass music. As well as attracting deserved acclaim for his wide-ranging and adventurous but compulsively danceable DJ sets, he's the co-founder of Birmingham's already iconic afterparty 02:31, hosts a weekly show on London station Rinse FM, and has been honing his own sub-bass propelled productions to pinpoint precision.
Growing up in Birmingham, Shorterz's love affair with dance music started early - while still at school he became enamoured with the vitality and variety of UK garage in its heyday. As the garage community waned and the genre started to evolve into grime, a chance discovery of a local pirate station playing house, speed garage and bassline sparked off a fresh musical obsession.
He began to dig for both new and older music, DJing regularly and holding down several residencies in Birmingham, before co-founding the 02:31 afterparty in 2011. The party, held at the Rainbow Warehouse, has since grown into one of the city's most vibrant places to hear new underground dance music, and has spawned a sister all-nighter - 10:31 - and a weekly show on Rinse FM.
In recent years, his tastes have sharpened but become broader, with his DJ sets drawing across styles and energy levels while retaining an absolutely irresistible power on the dancefloor. In line with the ethos of 02:31, Shorterz describes the music he plays under the deliberately open-minded umbrella term 'House & Bass', allowing him to flit seamlessly across the spectrum. Propulsive yet bumpy, powered by unruly, chest-rattling subs and shot through with dazzling vocal cut-ups, his DJ sets add potent shots of immediacy and rawness to house's infectious backline groove.
That same attitude and atmosphere reverberates through Shorterz's own productions. He first started producing on FruityLoops in 2004 with friends, and released a string of 12"s of driving, sub-heavy house and garage. In the time since, his tracks have become increasingly refined, distilling the raw and old-school feel of his earliest productions into more streamlined yet no less forceful shapes.
Shorterz has released music through Four40 records, including the unruly, piston-pumping 'Wot U Do', and recently contributed an exclusive remix of Hot Natured's anthem 'Reverse Skydiving' to Richy Ahmed's 2013 Rinse mix CD. He's also recently founded a new project, Paranoid Resistance, as an outlet for his rawer, trackier and more twisted musical visions. With full releases planned for the near future, you'll be hearing more from this darker alter ego in the coming months.
The weekly 02:31 Rinse FM show draws all the strands of Shorterz's musical world together. Co-hosted by residents Cause & Affect and frequently inviting along friends and guest DJs from the Birmingham scene, it's an ever-evolving showcase of the sound of 02:31 in action: house, garage, bass music and more, all mixed with customary flair. But it also reaches beyond that, with the freedom of radio allowing Shorterz to dip into the other music styles that inspires him, from funk, to disco, to jungle. It offers a vibrant insight into a restless musical mind. Expect to hear far more of Tom Shorterz's name in the near future.
